Two episodes left! What will the world do without the battle for the Iron Throne? Since I have regular SPOILERS coming through my news feed every morning, I am going to make my own predictions. For those who are not caught up on the new season of GOT, I warn you, SPOILERS will follow…
First of all, way to drop the ball on the Night King plot. Sure, the battle episode was beyond phenomenal, the best cinematography I’ve ever seen and yes, I did the Arya dance when she drove a knife through the Night King in the end but what the hell GOT, what was the point?
Yes, I get it, the Night King was created by the Children of the Forest to keep humanity in check and he made deals with at least one Northerner to sacrifice his baby boys to keep his army of wights growing but WHY and what was his motive for icing down the wall and taking on Jon & Dany’s armies, dragons, etc. in an effort to end humanity? I hardly think the Free Folk in the far north is enough of a reason to destroy the world. A little more back story and/or any back story would have been really helpful.
I’m not buying that Bran is the Night King and/or will become the Night King. Bran is a Stark and just like all Stark’s, nothing but loyal to his family. I believe Bran, as the new three eyed raven, in addition to seeing the past and future has the ability to regulate magic, that’s it but that is huge if you consider everything that has happened since Season 1, Episode 1 of the GOT show has involved magic returning from a long slumber.
How is this all going to end? Who will conquer and lead the new world? Who will die? These are the questions on our minds going into the final two episodes. I have thought long and hard on the topic and here we go.
While going into the final season, my prediction was absolutely tragic. It seems in true George RR Martin form, death, destruction and utter devastation of the good and noble was completely in order, however, Martin is not writing this last leg of the story and judging from the positive outcomes in the first four episodes; Brianne being knighted and hooking up with Jaime, feuding characters and rival families coming together to fight for the common good, the defeat and end of the Night King and his army, Jorah dying protecting his queen, Dany giving Gendry title and legitimacy sort of out of the kindness of her heart, hell even Arya and the Hound riding off together back to King’s Landing – it’s all warm and fuzzy which is a STARK (punt intended) contrast to the mood of the show heading into the final season.
Considering how flat I feel after the defeat of the Night King; I am still waiting on the dead Targaryen army to come through and fight for their lost power – led by Rhaegar and the Mad King of course, this would have been a believable Night King plot anyway, but no, I have given up on any type of real or substantial army of the dead story. We now turn our attention to the battle between Cersie and Dany for the Iron Throne with Jon sort of keeping his auntie on the hook and of course doing as she wishes out of his own Stark inherited loyalty and honor at all costs. Ingred was damn right though, “Jon Snow knows nothing.” Than there is the plight of the Stark sisters who are clearly not in favor of Dany leading the new world but Jon doesn’t want the title so who’s left? That’s right folks, good old Cersie Lannister – the most under-estimated character in cinematic history.
I’m sticking to my guns and although the warm and fuzzy tone of Season 8 until now has given me doubt, I think the show will end with Cersie Lannister staying on the Iron Throne and making a deal (which has likely already been made) with her little bird, Sansa Stark. The remaining Starks will have the North truly back, the Lannister dynasty will rule over the South and while I was hoping for a Dany/Jon marriage with little wolf/dragon babies running around King’s Landing and Cersie taking a knife from Arya it seems the one and only prediction thus far that has remained unchallenged, Dany is becoming the villain and will suffer a similar fate to her Mad father. I’m rather positive her death will be by fire though, in the same fashion she killed the Tarly father and eldest son which I believe is when Dany truly began to fall from grace.
Anyway, we shall see I guess, really looking forward to tonight’s episode.
